Work

I’d love to just show all my best work.  Unfortunately, all of my work for the past 7 years has been on private web applications, and therefore can’t be viewed publicly.  Please contact me to schedule a time to see more examples.  To get an idea of the projects I’ve done and their results, I’ve discussed some sample projects below.

Project: Predictive modeling

Challenge:  I was given the direction to “do something with predictive” in relation to an industry-leading cross-channel marketing platform.

Process:  I first did a great deal of research around the business values of predictive modeling, in order to determine what would be valuable features.  When I felt that I understood, I investigated what our competitors were doing in the space, and also reached out to internal data experts for the type if data feasible to access.  I sketched and prototyped several flow around integrating modeling to drive actions and also acquire new potential clients.  Once I was happy with the prototype, I reviewed it with data scientists and development, then presented it to upper management.

Result:  The proposed features and flows were so well received, they were selected for inclusion in the companies flagship product, the marketing suite.

Project: Mobile automobile shopping

Challenge:  As part of an innovation team, we were challenged with increasing the company’s footprint in the automotive space.

Process:  After team discussion, we decided the best solution for our company was to create a new auto shopping experience, which would allow us to increase use of the company’s auto history report and credit reports.  I researched existing auto shopping websites, both mobile and web, and gathered ideal requirements from the team.  Then I wireframed a full mobile application.  After tweaks and changes from the team, I incorporated the visual design from an external design team, and created a full prototype.  To test our solution, I designed and performed a full usability test.  Finally, I presented the mobile application to the executive team.

Result:  The mobile solution won an Innovation award, and was selected by the Automotive group to be developed and deployed.

Project: Revamp an email platform

Challenge:  An industry-leading email platform needed to be easier to use, and incorporate modern functionality and technology.  Specifically, the flow of creating an email campaign needed to be drastically improved.

Process:  Although I was experienced in the application as it was, the first step was to work with the product experts to get an understanding of the advanced functionality.  I then researched the solutions of their competitors.  Equally importantly, I researched interaction models of big data applications and other popular web applications.  In conjunction with the product experts, I mapped out new user flows, sketched wireframes, and created clickable prototypes.  Since the project was so large, it went through multiple rounds of testing.  I designed and conducted tests via paper prototypes as well as the clickable prototype.  Once complete, I had become such an expert on the functionality that I assisted with product support for the post release period.

Result:  The updated flow saved several client losses, and was instrumental in winning several more from competitors.  It garnered excellent reviews from internal and external users, with users complementing it on the ease of use and time-saving results.  The new interaction models were so well received that they have been used in several other applications for the company.

Project: Create a new expiries management application

Challenge:  A major financial company was creating a new platform to manage many of its trading processes, including expiring positions.  The project had been done twice and failed both times due to user complaints about the interface and experience.

Process:  This project needed to be turned around very rapidly in order to avoid a third failure.  I worked closely with lead business analyst to understand the requirements and current flow, and spoke to the product owner about his vision.  I then planned the user flow, sketched wireframes, and created a basic prototype to illustrate my ideas.  The product owner, business analyst, and I discussed the work daily for a week, with changes made in between the meetings, as I continued to flesh out the prototype.  Once they felt confident, I presented the solution to lead users from the five geographic units.  After incorporating their feedback, I provided the prototype to the same users along with a script, and the lead users reviewed and discussed it with their teams.

Result:  The final prototype was received with relief and acclaim.  After almost a year of no progress, it was approved for development.
